Overview

The Discordian Calendar converter turns any Gregorian date into its Discordian equivalent — the five-season, 73-day-per-season calendar from the Principia Discordia. The result names the season (Chaos, Discord, Confusion, Bureaucracy, The Aftermath), the day-of-season number, the five-day weekday (Sweetmorn through Setting Orange), and the Year of Our Lady of Discord (YOLD).

Useful for fans of the Principia Discordia, novelty datestamp generators, Erisian-themed game and forum signatures, and anyone who appreciates an absurd but mathematically consistent alternative calendar that has been in continuous use since 1958.

How it works

The Discordian year always has exactly 365 days, even in leap years, and aligns with the Gregorian year start on January 1. Each of the five seasons has 73 days. Weeks have five days and cycle continuously from Sweetmorn (day 1 of the year) without resetting at season boundaries.

On leap years, February 29 is replaced by St. Tib's Day, a day that exists outside the normal weekday rotation — it has no five-day weekday name and is not counted as a day of any season. The year number is offset by adding 1166 to the Gregorian year, so 2026 maps to YOLD 3192.

Examples

2026-01-01 → Sweetmorn, the 1st day of Chaos, YOLD 3192
2026-05-18 → Boomtime, the 65th day of Discord, YOLD 3192
2024-02-29 → St. Tib's Day, YOLD 3190
2026-12-31 → Setting Orange, the 73rd day of The Aftermath, YOLD 3192

FAQ

What does YOLD stand for?

Year of Our Lady of Discord, the Discordian era counted from the supposed founding of the religion in 1166 BC, so add 1166 to any Gregorian year.

Why are there five seasons?

Discordian numerology revolves around the Law of Fives, attributed to the goddess Eris. Five seasons of 73 days each gives exactly 365 days per year.

What is St. Tib's Day?

The leap-day intercalary observance, named for a fictional saint. It sits between Chaos 59 and Chaos 60 and has no weekday, so the five-day week rolls on unbroken either side of it.

Is February 29 always St. Tib's Day?

Yes — whenever the Gregorian calendar inserts a leap day, the Discordian calendar inserts St. Tib's Day at the same point.

Are the season names religious?

They are part of a satirical religion built around Eris, Greek goddess of discord. They are not connected to any of the mainstream religious calendars.
