Random Superhero / Villain Name
Generate superhero or super-villain names from themed pools.
Overview
The Random Superhero / Villain Name generator emits dramatic two- and three-part comic-book names by combining themed word pools — "Captain Voidwing", "The Crimson Tempest", "Dr. Hexbane". Pick heroic or villainous flavour, set the count, and the tool delivers names ready for a tabletop game, a writing prompt or a placeholder character in a mockup.
The generator is aimed at tabletop RPG players naming PCs and NPCs, comic-book writers brainstorming alter egos, game designers populating rosters and educators running creative-writing exercises. Long-tail searches like "random superhero name generator", "villain name generator tabletop" and "random comic character name" all resolve here.
How it works
The tool maintains separate hero and villain pools across three slots — honorific (Captain, Lord, Doctor, The), descriptor (Crimson, Voidborn, Shadow, Iron) and noun (Wing, Bane, Tempest, Sentinel). Each slot uses its own curated word list, balanced for tone: hero descriptors lean toward elemental and noble imagery; villain descriptors lean toward shadow, plague and dread. The honorific slot is omitted for ~40% of draws to produce shorter names.
Each click draws one word from each active slot using the OS cryptographic random source. The result is title-cased with stylistic capitalisation rules: "The" is kept when it leads, "Dr." gets a period, "Captain" stays full-form. Bulk mode produces a list of distinct names with a small deduplication pass.
Examples
Hero → Captain Voidwing
Hero → The Crimson Tempest
Villain → Dr. Hexbane
Villain → Lord Plaguewright
FAQ
Are the names safe for younger audiences?
Yes. The word pools were filtered to avoid violence references, slurs and culturally insensitive imagery. The vibe is comic-book theatrical, not gritty.
Can I bias toward hero or villain?
Yes. Pick the mode and the word pools shift; "neutral" mixes both and is great for morally-grey characters.
Will the names collide with real comic characters?
The tool checks against a short list of widely-known characters and resamples on a hit. Coincidental matches with niche characters remain possible.
Can I generate group rosters?
Yes. Set the count to bulk-generate a team of names with a deduplication pass so no two are identical.
Can I lock a word slot?
Pin any of the three slots (honorific, descriptor, noun) and the tool resamples only the others, useful for theming a whole team around a shared word.
