Magic 8-Ball

Ask any yes/no question and shake the ball for a fortune.

Overview

The Magic 8-Ball asks the universe to weigh in on your yes/no question. You type your question, shake the ball, and an answer floats up from the classic pool — "Reply hazy, try again", "It is certain", "Don't count on it", and the rest.

It is a low-stakes decision aid for the moments when you already know the answer but want a charming way to commit to it. Use it for trivial choices (taco or pasta?) or as a silly party prop when nobody can agree on what to do next.

How it works

Behind the scenes the ball draws from the canonical bank of 20 responses: ten affirmative, five non-committal, and five negative. Each shake selects one at random and reveals it on the ball's triangular face. The probabilities mirror the original toy.

You can ask anything, but the answers only work for yes/no questions. Ask follow-ups, ask the same question again, or accept the first answer as a sign — that part is up to you.

Examples

  • "Should I send the email tonight?" — "Reply hazy, try again."
  • "Will it rain on Saturday?" — "Don't count on it."
  • "Should we order pizza?" — "Without a doubt."
  • "Am I going to regret this haircut?" — "Better not tell you now."

FAQ

How many possible answers are there?
20, matching the original toy's pool.

Are the answers weighted toward yes?
Yes — half are affirmative, a quarter are non-committal, and a quarter are negative, just like the classic version.

Can I ask the same question twice?
You can, and the answer may change. Whether you treat that as cheating is between you and the ball.

Does it remember my questions?
No. Nothing is stored. Each shake is independent and forgotten.

Is it suitable for kids?
Yes. The answers are all gentle and family-friendly.
