Ancient Script Converter

Transliterate Latin text into Runes, Greek, Cyrillic, hieroglyphs or cuneiform.

Open tool

Overview

This converter rewrites everyday Latin-alphabet text in a handful of historical writing systems — Elder Futhark runes, Greek, Cyrillic, Egyptian hieroglyphs, and Sumerian-style cuneiform. The output uses Unicode characters from each script's official block, so you can copy and paste it into documents, designs, or social profiles.

Worldbuilders, game designers, tattoo planners, history teachers, and fantasy writers use it to add visual flavor without learning each script from scratch. It's also handy for testing whether a font you've embedded actually covers the Unicode range you need.

How it works

Each script's converter maps Latin letters to their closest visual or phonetic counterpart in the target system. For runes and Greek the mapping is phonetic ("th" becomes a single thorn rune, "ps" becomes psi). Hieroglyphs and cuneiform use approximate-shape mappings since those scripts encode sounds and meaning that don't line up cleanly with English letters. Numbers, punctuation, and unmapped characters pass through unchanged.

Examples

Input: HELLO
Runes: ᚺᛖᛚᛚᛟ
Greek: ΗΕΛΛΟ
Input: CAESAR
Cyrillic: ЦАЕСАР
Hieroglyph: 𓎡𓄿𓇋𓊃𓄿𓂋

FAQ

Is this a real translation?

No. It's a transliteration — a one-to-one character substitution. The original meaning, grammar, and pronunciation aren't preserved the way a proper translation would.

Why don't I see the hieroglyphs / cuneiform on my device?

Those scripts live in supplementary Unicode planes. You need a font like Noto Sans Egyptian Hieroglyphs or Noto Sans Cuneiform installed. Without one, browsers show empty boxes.

Can I go in reverse?

The tool is one-way: Latin into the historical script. Reversing requires a true scholarly transliteration and isn't supported here.
