Time-Lapse Calculator
Plan a time-lapse: solve interval, frame count, clip length and storage.
About this tool
A time-lapse planning calculator. Enter any three of the shooting interval, event duration, frame rate and desired clip length, and it solves for the fourth along with the total number of frames you need to shoot. Add an average file size to get a storage estimate, so you can plan cards and battery before the shoot.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a time-lapse interval?
Supply any three of interval, event duration, frame rate and final clip length. The tool solves the missing value using shots = event / interval and clip = shots / fps.
How many photos will my time-lapse need?
Total shots equals the real event duration divided by the shooting interval. At a 5-second interval over 2 hours that is 1,440 frames.
How long will the final video be?
Final clip length equals total shots divided by frame rate. 1,440 frames at 24 fps gives a 60-second clip.
Can it estimate storage?
Yes. Add mb_per_shot= and it multiplies your average file size by the frame count, reporting the total in MB or GB.
