Band Name Generator

Random band names by genre — indie, metal, pop, folk, electronic.

Open tool

Overview

This generator coins random band names tuned by genre. Pick indie, metal, pop, folk, or electronic, and you get a fresh combination that fits the conventions of that scene — long whimsical phrases for indie, ominous compound nouns for metal, snappy two-syllable hooks for pop.

Musicians naming a new project, podcasters needing a fictional act for a sketch, novelists populating a music-industry plot, and tabletop game masters dressing up an NPC bar all reach for it. Even if you don't use a result directly, it's a fast way to break out of the "we're stuck on names" rut.

How it works

Each genre has its own curated pools — adjectives, nouns, articles, and stylistic templates ("The [Adjective] [Plural Noun]", "[Noun] of [Noun]", "[Verb]-ing the [Noun]"). The generator picks a template at random for the selected genre, then fills in slots from the matching word pools. Pools are weighted so common-feeling combinations outpace bizarre ones, but you can usually re-roll until something clicks.

FAQ

Are these names guaranteed to be unique?

No. The pools are large, but coincidences with real bands happen. Always search the web (and trademark databases) before committing to a name for a real act.

Can I add my own words to the pools?

The built-in pools are fixed, but the Custom Word Lists tool lets you save your own lists for other generators that accept user input.

Why does the same genre give such different vibes between rolls?

Each genre has multiple templates and large pools. That's a feature: real scenes contain everything from minimal one-word names to sprawling phrases.
