Fretboard Note Finder

Map every note on a guitar, bass or ukulele fretboard for any tuning.

About this tool

The Fretboard Note Finder prints a complete note map of a fretted instrument for any tuning. Choose a built-in tuning (standard, drop D, DADGAD, open G, bass, ukulele) or enter your own low-to-high note list, set how many frets to show, and pick sharps or flats. It outputs a clean monospace grid with the highest string on top, ideal for learning the neck, planning chord voicings, or transcribing in alternate tunings.

Frequently asked questions

What are the notes on a standard-tuned guitar fretboard?

Open strings are E A D G B E (low to high), and each fret raises the pitch one semitone through the 12-note chromatic scale. This tool prints the full grid for you.

Can it show drop D, DADGAD or open G tunings?

Yes. Use tuning=drop-d, tuning=dadgad, tuning=open-g, tuning=bass or tuning=ukulele, or give a custom note list like tuning=E A D G B E.

How do I show flats instead of sharps?

Add accidentals=flats. By default the grid uses sharps (C#, D#), and flats shows the enharmonic equivalents (Db, Eb).
