Game Backlog
Track owned, playing, beat and dropped games.
Overview
The Game Backlog turns a pile of unfinished video games into a manageable list. Each entry tracks title, platform, status (owned, playing, beat, dropped and so on), hours played and an optional one-to-ten rating, so the backlog reflects not just what you have but how far you have actually gotten. Status counters at the top show the shape of the backlog at a glance, which is uncomfortably useful when deciding whether to buy yet another game.
The tool is designed for players who juggle multiple platforms or long RPGs alongside shorter indies. Filter by status to find what you are actively playing, sort by hours to see your biggest time sinks, or sort by rating once you finish a title and want to rank it against earlier completions. Notes capture difficulty, save slot, who you played with on co-op, or why a game was set aside.
How it works
Add a game with a title, optional platform, current status, hours played and rating. Notes are free-form. Once added, the row shows a status selector you can change inline as a game moves from "Playing" to "Beat" or "Dropped" without re-editing the entry.
Filters narrow the list by status and full-text search across title, platform and notes. The sort menu reorders by status, title, hours or rating so the most relevant slice is always on top. The dashboard above the list breaks down total hours and counts per status, and the trash icon removes a row when a game is sold off or otherwise leaves your library.
Examples
- Currently playing: title "Elden Ring", platform "PS5", status Playing, hours 47, rating empty, note "Rune farm at Mohgwyn, pre-Malenia."
- Beat: title "Hades", platform "Switch", status Beat, hours 62, rating 10, note "10 heat cleared, replay on Steam Deck."
- Dropped: title "Starfield", platform "PC", status Dropped, hours 18, rating 5, note "lost interest after main quest opener."
- Backlog shopping check: filter to "Owned" and sort by Hours to see what is unplayed before buying anything new.
FAQ
Which statuses are supported?
The list includes typical lifecycle states such as Owned, Playing, Beat and Dropped. Choose whichever fits and update it from the row when things change.
Should hours come from the platform tracker?
However you measure them is fine. Whole numbers or half-hour steps both work, and the dashboard totals everything you enter.
Can I track DLC separately?
Add it as its own entry with the base game referenced in the title or notes. That keeps the hours and status clean for each piece of content.
How do I move a game to Beat?
Use the status selector on the row, no need to re-add the entry. The header counters refresh automatically.
What if I do not own a game yet?
Many players track wishlist items by adding them with an empty platform and a Wishlist status in notes, or by waiting until they actually buy in.
