Book Library

Track books you own, want and have read with ratings.

Overview

The Book Library tracks the books you own, the ones you want, and the ones you have finished, all in a single searchable list. Each entry stores title, author, ISBN, a one-to-five star rating, an owned flag and free-form notes, so you can use the same tool as a shelf inventory, a wishlist and a personal review log. It is well-suited to readers who want a clean alternative to spreadsheets without uploading their reading life to a public network.

The dashboard counts owned books, wishlist books and average rating across everything you have scored. Filters separate owned titles from the wishlist, search runs across title, author and ISBN at once, and sort options reorder by title, author, rating or when you added the book. The result is a private library that scales from a couple dozen books to a few thousand without becoming hard to scan.

How it works

Add a book with at least a title; author, ISBN, rating and the owned checkbox are optional but make searches and stats more useful later. Notes can hold a one-line review, a series tag or a reminder of who recommended it. Submit to push it to the list.

Use the filter input for free-text search, the Show dropdown to toggle between all books, owned only or wishlist only, and the sort dropdown to switch between alphabetical, by-rating and recency views. The counters above the list summarise the entire collection regardless of the current filter, while the list itself responds live to typing.

Examples

  • Owned classic: title "Dune", author "Frank Herbert", ISBN 9780441172719, rating 5, owned checked, note "1965 hardcover, gift from Dad."
  • Wishlist non-fiction: title "The Power Broker", author "Robert Caro", rating empty, owned unchecked, note "audiobook OK if hardback is too heavy."
  • Recently finished: title "Piranesi", author "Susanna Clarke", rating 5, owned checked, note "read March 2026, lend to Mia."
  • Quick wishlist scan: set Show to Wishlist and sort by Recently added to see what your future self should pick up next.

FAQ

Do I need an ISBN?
No. ISBN is optional and useful only if you want to search by it later or paste into another tool.

How do I move a book from wishlist to owned?
Open the entry, tick the Owned checkbox, and save. Counts in the header update on the next refresh of the view.

Can I rate books I have not finished?
Yes, ratings are independent of the owned flag. Use notes to mark whether the rating is provisional.

What is a sensible scale for the rating?
The field accepts one to five. A common pattern is one for did-not-finish, three for solid, five for re-read material.

Can I export the library?
The list is searchable and sortable inside the app, and entries are saved to your account so they travel between devices automatically.
