Freezer Inventory
Track what's in the freezer with frozen-on and use-by dates.
Overview
The Freezer Inventory tool gives you a clear, scrollable list of everything in your freezer, with the date each item went in and a recommended use-by date. It exists for the simple reason that a packed freezer is a black hole: bags drift to the back, labels smudge, and meat from "a few months ago" turns into a guessing game. Logging items as you freeze them turns that chaos into a quick scan on your phone before you cook or shop.
Each entry stores a name, quantity, frozen-on date, and an expiry date that you can either set manually or derive from typical freezer storage guidelines. The result is a working inventory you can sort by oldest first, filter by category, and trim as you eat through your stash. Nothing is uploaded; your list stays on your device.
How it works
When you add an item, type its name and how much you froze (units are flexible: bags, portions, pounds). Pick a frozen-on date, then either accept the suggested use-by date or override it for items with a specific best-by label. The list updates instantly and highlights anything past its expiry so you can prioritise it for dinner.
You can edit any entry to fix a typo, adjust a quantity, or extend a date when you check the package. Removing an item is a single tap when you cook it. The whole inventory is sorted to keep the soonest-to-expire items at the top of the view.
Examples
- Logging "Ground beef, 2 lb" with a frozen-on date so you use it within three months.
- Tracking batch-cooked lasagne portions individually so you know exactly how many remain.
- Adding loaves of bread with a 30-day expiry to avoid freezer burn.
- Keeping seasonal items like berries or pesto cubes labelled with their picking date.
FAQ
Does it suggest expiry dates automatically?
Yes, the tool offers conservative defaults based on common freezer storage guidance, which you can override per item.
Can I track quantities in different units?
The quantity field is free text, so you can use bags, pounds, grams, portions, or whatever fits the item.
Is my data private?
The inventory is saved locally in your browser and never sent to a server.
What about food safety?
Frozen at a constant temperature, many foods remain safe indefinitely but lose quality. The suggested dates target quality, not safety, so trust your senses too.
Can I print or export the list?
Use your browser's print function on the page to produce a paper copy for a freezer door magnet.
