Lending Log

Track what you've loaned out or borrowed and from whom.

Open tool

Overview

The Lending Log tool tracks the small but consequential question of who has your stuff and whose stuff you have. Books, power tools, baking dishes, board games: items leave the house with good intentions and somehow never come back. A short, dated log turns a vague suspicion into a clean record, so you can ask for things back without awkwardness or remember to return a borrowed drill before it becomes "yours."

Each entry captures the item, the direction (lent out or borrowed), the person, the date, and an optional return-by date. The log can be filtered to show only items currently out, only items you have borrowed, or the entire history. Because the data stays in your browser, it is private and immediate; there is no friend list to set up.

How it works

Add a record by typing the item name, choosing whether you lent or borrowed it, and entering the other person's name and the date. If you agreed on a return date, set it; the tool will flag the row when that date passes. When the item comes home, mark the entry returned and it drops out of the active list while staying in your history.

You can edit any field to correct a name or extend an agreed return date. The active view stays focused on what is currently out, so the log never feels cluttered as it grows.

Examples

  • Logging a borrowed pressure washer with a one-week return-by date.
  • Tracking books lent to friends so you remember which titles are missing from your shelf.
  • Recording tools lent during a neighbour's project to follow up after they finish.
  • Keeping tabs on dishes returned after a potluck.

FAQ

Does it send reminders when items are overdue?
There are no push notifications; the log highlights overdue entries when you open the page.

Can I track items lent to the same person multiple times?
Yes, each loan is a separate entry, so a single contact can appear across many rows.

Is my data shared with anyone?
No, entries are stored locally in your browser and never transmitted.

What happens if I close the tab mid-entry?
Saved rows persist; an unsaved row in progress will be lost, so finalise each entry before navigating away.

Can I export the history?
Print the page or save it as a PDF to keep an off-device record.
