Grocery List
Persistent grocery list with categories and checkboxes.
Overview
The Grocery List tool is a persistent, categorised shopping list that survives between trips and stays organised by aisle. Unlike a single-use paper list, items you frequently buy stick around, so building next week's list is just a matter of unchecking what you already bought. It is designed to feel as fast as a notepad while bringing the structure of a proper meal-planning app.
Items are grouped into categories such as produce, dairy, pantry, frozen, and household, so when you walk into the store you can jump to the section you are standing in. Each row has a checkbox so you can tick things off as you drop them into the cart. The list saves automatically as you go, with no sign-in step before you can start typing.
How it works
Add an item by typing its name and optionally selecting a category; the tool remembers the categories you have used so future items autocomplete quickly. When you finish shopping, you can either leave the checks in place or clear the completed rows in one tap to start the next list. Items are stored in your browser, so the same list appears every time you open the page on that device.
You can reorder items within a category, edit names to fix typos, and remove anything you no longer want. Quantities can be embedded directly in the item name when needed, keeping the interface light.
Examples
- Building a weekly list grouped into produce, deli, frozen, and household sections.
- Keeping a permanent "staples" set such as milk, eggs, and bread that you uncheck each Sunday.
- Logging items as they run out during the week so nothing is forgotten by Saturday morning.
- Sharing a clean printout with a partner doing the shopping.
FAQ
Does the list sync between devices?
No, the list is stored locally on the device you used to create it. Open it on the same browser to see the same items.
Can I have multiple lists?
The tool maintains a single working list; for separate trips, clear completed items between visits or use categories as virtual sub-lists.
Will my list survive if I close the tab?
Yes, items persist in browser storage across sessions until you explicitly remove them or clear site data.
Can I add quantities and notes?
Type them straight into the item name, for example "Apples x6" or "Bread, sourdough".
How do I print my list?
Use your browser's print function and choose to fit the page; the categorised layout prints cleanly.
